The CIU volleyball team went 3-1 in last week’s competition, but experienced a big victory along the way and set itself up for record-setting end to this season.
CIU fell in four sets to the top team in the AAC on Thursday and became the 66th consecutive team to drop a conference match to the Eagles. The Rams turned the tables the very next day and put an end to the Reinhardt winning streak in another four-set match.
The Rams earned sweeps of Brenau and Kentucky Christian on Saturday to move to 9-5 on the year. With five league matches remaining in the regular season, the next CIU win will set a new program mark for the most conference victories in a season.
During the week, stellar performances were had all around, including a big week from freshman Kamelia De Jesus.
She was named the NCCAA D-I National Volleyball Player of the Week for her efforts.
De Jesus showed up in a big way in the streak-ending win over Reinhardt with 50 assists in the 3-1 victory to go with 17 digs. She averaged 10.1 assists per set and 3.2 digs per set through the four matches.
The freshman saw her assist average rise this week, while continuing to excel on defense, averaging 3.42 digs per set on the year.
CIU travels to Brenau for its next AAC competition on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
