MCCORMACK, S.C. – The Limestone University women’s golf team brought home hardware for a second straight week, winning the Savannah Lakes Invitational with a 297 (+9) on Tuesday, while senior Ebba Hellman (Ronninge, Sweden) and freshman Stina Wikstrom (Gustafs, Sweden) both tied for first.

INSIDE THE SCORECARD

  • The Blue Team held off Flagler on day two, winning the tournament with a combined 593 (+17)
  • The Gold Team maintained their position in fourth place, finishing with a total of 624 (+48)
  • Wikstrom surged on the final day with a 1-over 73 to force a first-place tie
  • Hellman carded a 75 (+3) on Tuesday to finish atop the leaderboard with a two-day 147 (+3)
  • Hellman won her first career individual medalist honors with a playoff win against Wikstrom
  • Freshman Karla Lagerstrom (Stockholm, Sweden) placed third overall after firing a 74 (+2)
  • Senior Pilar Martinez (Malaga, Spain) worked into a top-10 placement with second-round 75
  • Martinez placed seventh overall on the individual leaderboard with a combined 151 (+7)
  • Freshman Taylor Oberparleiter (Laurel Springs, N.J.) also posted a top-10 finish with a 152 (+8)
  • Senior Lena Schilowsky (Gloggnitz, Austria) just missed a top-10 placement, shooting a 76 (+4) in Tuesday’s final round – she placed 13th overall with a two-round 153 (+9)
  • Sophomores Hedvig Schjetne (Trondheim, Norway) and Lisa Sevenius (Aakersberga, Sweden) both tied for 20th after each tallying a two-day 157 (+13)
  • Sophomore Emily Byrne (Liverpool, England) dropped to 28th place with a second-round 85 (+13)
  • Sophomore Olivia Erwin (Charleston, S.C.) concluded the tourney with a total score of 167 (+23)

NOTABLES

  • Limestone won back-to-back tournaments for the second time in three seasons
  • Flagler carded a 300 (+12) on Tuesday, but the Saints were able to hold them off by six strokes
  • The Blue and Gold bested third-place Anderson by 23 strokes and last-place Newberry by 112
  • Hellman collected her first career tournament while Martinez added a 19th career top-10 finish
  • Wikstrom has placed first in each of her first two career tournaments
  • Lagerstrom added another top-5 placement in just her second career outing
  • Oberparleiter posted her first career top-10 placement
  • Limestone’s freshman class has combined for a pair of first-place finishes, four top-5 placements, and five top-10’s over the first two tournaments of the year

After two quick tournament wins in a shortened fall segment, the Saints will take off the winter and return to action at the World Golf Invitational hosted by Flagler College on February 8 and 9, 2021.
