DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Lander women’s golf team finished the first day of the LeeAnn Noble Memorial in sixth place.
Lee University leads the pack with a 12-over-par finish after the first day of action. West Georgia is in second with a 22-over-par day while North Georgia is in third after shooting 23-over-par.
“For our first tournament of the season, I couldn’t be prouder of our girls. I knew we would be a little nervous as we have several freshmen playing for the first time, but they both shined today,” said head coach Mark Riddle. “Our score of 305 in the second round was the lowest as a team we have shot in the last three years. We are playing against some of the best teams in the country, so we are looking at progress and playing better each time we go out.”
Junior Hannah Stephenson and freshman Ella Nilsson are both tied for 13th with a 10-over-par first day. Junior Caroline Hardee is tied for 21st with a 13-over-par while freshman Caitlyn Cash is tied for 27th with a 15-over-par day. Sophomore Chloe Hiott rounds out the Bearcats lineup with a tie for 31st after a 16-over-par day.
Lander is back in action tomorrow to conclude the final day of the LeeAnn Noble Memorial.
