GREENWOOD – In a year that saw the launch of lacrosse and wrestling, NCAA tournament berths by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and an appearance in the Peach Belt Conference title match for men’s soccer, the Lander Bearcats were among the top NCAA Division II schools in the country at defending their home.
Compiling a record of 96-16-3 for all home events during the 2019-20 academic year, the Bearcats ranked fourth nationally in home winning percentage (84.78) as well as racking up the second-most wins among Division II schools.
Six sports (men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, and volleyball) recorded one or fewer losses while in the comfy confines of Greenwood.
“Lander’s home record for the previous year is an incredible accomplishment by our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” said athletic director Brian Reese. “It really speaks to the quality of the young men and women coming to campus and what it means to them when they put on a Bearcat jersey.”
The Bearcats were only bested by Angelo State University (84.87), University of Indianapolis (85.38) and West Texas A&M (87.5) for the best home winning percentage.
Only UC San Diego was able to eclipse the Bearcats’ 96 home victories with 111.
